The Project

A public transportation company in Northern Ireland needed to relocate their cable store, responsible for train signalling and telecommunications. However, the selected site for the store had large stances of Japanese Knotweed, causing delays in starting project delays. Recognising our expertise in invasive plant eradication, we were engaged by Cleary Contracts to provide a rapid and cost-efficient solution for the eradication of the Japanese Knotweed at their site in Belfast.   

By using our innovative Eraginate® solution, we made it possible for a public transport company to continue their project.  

The Challenge

With construction about to start, herbicidal treatment methods of Japanese Knotweed eradication posed time constraints and conflicted with the project programme. The dig and dump approach would have increased costs due to landfill charges. Alternatively, stem injection methods, although effective, required treatment for a minimum of 2 years. 

The Solution

To address this issue, our client chose our innovative Eraginate® process to deal with the Japanese Knotweed infestation. Our approach involved the removal of all above-ground vegetation, followed by screening and hand-picking the roots for disposal at a licensed facility. We then implemented our specially designed screening process to extract any remaining knotweed, allowing the soil to be safely reused on-site. 

By completely eliminating the Japanese Knotweed and making the soil available for backfill or alternative purposes, we completed the process in just 2.5 weeks. Our efficient solution ensured that project deadlines were not delayed.
